A Truly Renewable Resource – CORK

Who doesn’t like the idea of “keeping it green?” This has become a world
wide target and what a better way to contribute to this idea than to consider Cork as your new floor covering. Cork is different to all other types of wood flooring in the sense that the Cork Oak Tree is never cut down!

Harvesting Green

Some of the staff at Touchwood was fortunate to visit the forest area
near Huntsville, Ontario as part of a Mill Tour put on by Vintage Hardwood
Flooring. We trekked through an “unmanaged forest” to see what happens
when just the large trees were removed with no regard to the wildlife, the forest or future harvesting.

Forever Green – Finishing Green

This environmental program aims to promote environmental protection,
sustainable development and is committed to responsible handling of resources. Our main supplier of hardwood flooring, Vintage Flooring is a member of
this program and adheres to the doctrine of being “green”.

Cleaning & Maintaining Your Hardwood Floors

All floors with a urethane finish should never be waxed and require cleaners that won’t leave a film or residue, alcohol based cleaners are best. Before using a cleaning product sweep or vacuum the hardwood floor removing dust, grit and sand. Clean one section of the floor at a time.

Hand Scraped or Distressed Hardwoods

Everywhere you turned at Vegas’ Surfaces Flooring Show a distressed wood floor was featured. Texture on these boards was created by scraping across the hard and soft grain of the plank flooring. Majority of this scraping is done by machine to simulate the age old “hand scraping” that was done years ago before sanding machines were invented.

Touchwood Has More Exotic Hardwood

Oiled Finished Hardwood Floors

An oiled floor gives you a finish like no other; the most natural looking wood floor that can be installed in your home or commercial area! An oiled floor has a low sheen/matte finish showing off the natural beauty of the wood.

The Importance of Humidity in Your Home

We recommend the humidity levels to be between 35%-47%. Any higher and you would have condensation build up on your windows. Too much condensation can lead to mould and bacteria growth.
